Hurricane the storm is forecast to strengthen into a uncommon Category 5 cyclone as it turns towards Jamaica, causing dangerous rapid inundation and rock falls.

The hurricane, which registered winds of up to 195 km/h as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is presently veering north-west in the Caribbean region and is expected to reach land by Tuesday, as reported by hurricane specialists.

Warnings of blackouts and structural damage have been issued as Melissa generates up to thirty inches of precipitation and coastal flooding as high as 4m above typical tides. "Find safe refuge immediately," locals have been advised.

The cyclone is the thirteenth cyclone in the current Atlantic hurricane season, which typically ends in the eleventh month.
