Resurgent Medvedev Claims First Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Medvedev won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.
Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
It is Medvedev's initial title after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from March of 2023.
Victory also means he has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one different events.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.
His counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led some to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was concluded.
Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.
The champion recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.
Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional championship, took control to create a third set.
The opponent rescued four early opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, he earned victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
